Everyone has heard the term “work-life balance”, but what do we mean by the life-life balance?
We recognise that it’s natural for anyone to conclude that the perfect “work-life” balance is 0% work and 100% life. Working at the expense of living will never have been your first choice. That’s why we prefer to replace “work” with “life”: that is, a balance between your professional-life and your work-life.
We believe you should lead a fulfilling and engaging life at home and in your profession. It’s our job to ensure your professional life is optimised. That means removing the things that feel like work – for example stripping out all the tasks that detract from your professional practice of lawyering, allowing you to work when and where you want (from anywhere in the world) and do as much or as little legal work as you choose. We work hard to reduce non-chargeable hours to zero so you can focus on your professional career and, most importantly, direct it into areas that particularly excite you.

DJB has enabled me to continue my practice working with excellent clients and undertaking a wide range of projects from small transactions through to major acquisitions of shopping centres and other investments. It is great being part of a team of lawyers who are of high standing and are specialists at what they do. We complement each other and it is helpful to be able to bounce ideas off colleagues. When leading a team on a major deal I can always be confident that the lawyers and support are all of high standard which makes co-ordinating them a pleasant experience. The remote locations of the lawyers is no barrier to our efficiency; and with a range of offices available I can always meet up with colleagues when desired. Plus, a lot of the administrative tasks are taken care of for the lawyers by our wonderful commercial team, which frees up time for looking after the client work.
Once a year I go to America for a whole month and have the confidence that my work is being handled by equally capable lawyers with whom my clients will enjoy working. All I have to do is to provide handover notes and the rest is taken care of, with the reverse handover back to me when I return being seamless allowing me to once again hit the ground running. I work 5 days a week and like to work full days, the flexibility that comes with working with DJB allows me to flex my working hours so that I can maximise my family time and help out with things like the school run; I get to enjoy the family as and when I want to.
